Diwali Cleaning Checklist You Need For A Sparkling Home : Get Started Today

Diwali Cleaning Checklist for easy diwali cleaning
41 Shares

Diwali is around the corner, and as much as we Indians love our festival, Diwali Deep cleaning, or as it’s fondly called, ‘Diwali ki Safai,’ is a daunting task and a big thing to accomplish.

Diwali Cleaning is deep cleaning every nook and cranny of the house to clean the vibes for the festival and the winter season ahead.

Understanding our pain about this festival cleaning spree, I have prepared this Diwali Cleaning checklist (don’t forget to save it) to help you go through all the mess step-by-step.

Things To Know Before Starting Diwali Cleaning

Things to Consider Before Cleaning

1. Declutter First, Clean Second

If your cabinets overflow with unused clothes, old toys, unread books, expired food products, and unrequired papers, there is no point in cleaning just the outer area.

Decluttering is very important to clean the vibes of your home fully and let the energy flow unhindered.

Yes, I am a Marie Kondo fan and Yes You can judge me for this!

You can start by category or by place.

For example choosing to sort clothes, books or papers is defined as category cleaning. Choosing to clean the kitchen, bedroom or kids room first is known as area cleaning.

You can choose at your convenience. If you select the category cleaning, check out this Marie Kondo Guide to Declutter & Organize Everything in Your House.

If you choose to clean your house room-wise then read on, please.

2. Go From Highest to Lowest

Start by Cleaning the ceiling, then exhaust fans, fans, walls, windows, cabinets, curtains, gadgets, seating (beds, sofa, recliner etc), followed by carpet and the floor in the end.

3. Get All the Help You Can

Diwali Cleaning is not a one-day job, it’s cleaning your house from scratch and making everything look and feel pretty.

So ask everyone in the family to take part and if nobody is interested or available, then there is no shame in hiring any professional help.

I am a big advocate of hiring professional help and the fact that I am not a fan of spiders, fuels that thought.

So even if it’s for hard-to-reach areas like ceiling, fans or deep cleaning needs like sofa and carpet, always ask for help!

4. Safety First

My Mom always makes sure that when one of us is on the ladder, someone is standing beside that person.

That person can help in stabilising the wobbly ladder, hand over different cleaning supplies to the other or in the worst-case scenario,  “Catch her!” LOL!

So whatever measures you can take for your safety, take them.

5. Work Smarter, Not Harder

If you know that you need to clean your clothes cabinet whenever you exchange summer and winter clothes in them, then keep them on the last number of your Diwali Cleaning spree.

They will eventually get cleaned.

6. Buy Only what’s needed

Buy only Useful things that you need, not because you liked that in an Instagram reel.

A magazine holder (if your magazines always clutter your table), a jewellery organizer (a trinket dish for the starters), a key holder (if you always spend a lot of time looking for your keys before heading out) or a fancy lazy Suzan to hold all those sauce & condiments on your dining table.

Buy something that makes your life easier, not something that will eventually become an additional burden on your cleaning list.

Maintain what you have cleaned

I call that ‘Golden 15 minutes’. The rule is to set the timer and clean what comes your way.

This will help tidy up your home daily without getting overwhelmed.

I use Dyson Vaccum Cleaner Once every two weeks on sofas, runners, carpets and footmats with different attachments. It saves me tons of time cleaning. I highly recommend buying a hand-held cordless vacuum cleaner because that is the only way to use it frequently.
