7 Skincare Hacks to Keep You Acne-free and Glowing in Monsoon

Monsoon is the season of rain and humidity, your skin will appear more sticky than ever. Also, monsoon provides the perfect conditions for bacterial growth so acne tends to flare up this season.

This article will specifically tell you how not to be the sticky trap for acne-causing bacteria and enjoy the rainy season with clear skin!

1. Wash & Wipe Your Face the Right Way

A dermatologist I follow has taught me an amazing tip that is pure gold! Whenever you wash your face, DON’T USE YOUR BODY TOWEL TO WIPE YOUR FACE.

It doesn’t matter if you keep a ‘clean side’ of the towel, especially for your face.

Either don’t wipe it at all or use a new handkerchief daily!

I highly highly recommend my DIY anti-pimple facewash for it, you won’t even get blackheads while using it, what to talk of acne. Also, washing your face in the evening is a must.

Please don’t consider me crazy but it makes a world of difference in your skin and you will see that the new acne won’t flare up at all.

Note – If you suffer from body acne, wash your towel every alternate day and detoxify your body to clear acne.

2. Use a Toner that will Either Remove Bacteria & Unclog the Pores

Some of the best toners for a humid rainy season are Pixi Glow Tonic, (if you want to splurge) and good vibes rice toner (if you are on a budget).

Fermented rice has glycolic acid in it naturally and this good vibes rice toner has worked wonders for me this humid season.

3. Focus on Moisturizer as Per Your Skin Type

Moisturizers are the need of the hour even in humid weather, if you have oily skin, then choose a gel-based moisturizer (aloe vera, aloe vera 🙂 Pardon me, it’s my personal favourite and it will always be till I die! If I am allowed to use only one skincare product, this will be it.

For other skin types, Cetaphil moisturizer is a safe bet but it won’t do any wonders for your skin, it will simply keep it hydrated and prevent new acne.

4. Clay Masks Are Your Best Friends

A clay mask with a simple fuller’s earth and rosewater goes a long way in unclogging your pores and absorbing excess oil from your skin.

Add a tablespoon of Fuller’s earth powder in a bowl, and make a paste by mixing rose water or plain water in it.

Apply it on a clean face and wash it off after it’s 80% dry which will take 10 to 15 minutes depending upon the weather.

It also doesn’t leave your skin super dry, just apply aloe vera gel after removing it.

5. You Don’t Need Sunscreen in Indian Humid Weather

Please don’t kill me for this one as it is contrary to what everyone else is saying or believing.

Sunscreen can be pore-clogging and even non-comedogenic sunscreens are heavy on the skin in the humid season. Plus aloe vera gel has sun-protecting properties too.

I am not against sunscreen but when you are having acne, you can ditch it and rely on physical barriers more such as hats, scarves, umbrellas etc.

Some studies have proven that sunscreen can even aggravate acne and print has this article about it.

6. Choose Your Beverages Wisely

Drink less sugar as an increase in sugar intake will make your skin more prone and tempting to acne-causing bacteria.

Take more water, green tea, cumin tea, coriander tea, chamomile tea and less carbonated sugary drinks.

Mint water is a magical drink for acne, it works amazingly well in summer and rainy weather. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

7. Some Miscellaneous Tips For Rainy Season

  • Wear Cotton clothes
  • Make sure your clothes are not damp, Iron them if required
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Don’t Pop your pimples
  • Make sure you wash your face before sleeping
  • Change bedsheets and pillow covers often (twice a week)
  • Use a diffuser to remove the humid smell
  • If you think that you have used too many actives in the past and your skin barrier is damaged then here is how to heal your damaged skin barrier

I hope these hacks will help you get clear acne-free skin in monsoon season. Stay tuned for more and subscribe to our newsletter please, I am too lazy to spam you with emails.
