We are acne people, we have tried each and everything under the sun to control acne from appearing and reappearing.
I sailed the same boat until I found this simple DIY homemade acne facewash that doubles as face scrub too.

If you use it daily, you won’t need any face scrub ever, as it has tiny granules that clean the gunk, and blackheads from within and keep the skin acne-free by unclogging the pores, daily!

That too without causing any harm to your skin, as this homemade acne face wash is full of good ingredients from Indian Ayurveda and old practices.

How To Make This Facewash for Acne-Prone Skin

The best thing about DIY facewash for acne is that they can be modified as per your preference, liking and how the skin responds to them.

The ingredients of this facewash cum scrub are –

  1. Chickpea flour or Besan– is a typical Indian household ingredient. It is rich in protein, amino acids, niacinamide, beta-carotene (the main source of vitamin A), and a whole range of vitamin B-complex (source). The plethora of ‘good actives’ that the skincare industry talks about are in chickpea flour. Niacinamide is anti-acne and the grainy texture of chickpea flour makes it super-easy to remove impurities. This is why you won’t need another face scrub homemade for acne.
  2. Sandalwood Powder – Also called Chandan, it is famous for its cooling properties. No wonder snakes cool their heated body by laying on the sandalwood branches. It is also anti-acne, mildly fragrant and thereby makes an essential component of this homemade anti-acne face wash. It has been used for various skin problems, skin rashes and even flaky scalp treatments for ages (source).
  3. Wild Turmeric – Different from regular turmeric, wild turmeric is more bright yellow in colour and it has a different aroma than regular turmeric that’s why it is called the Curcuma aromatica. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and anti-bacterial properties which stop the new acne from coming. It also stops unwanted hair growth in the area applied.
  1. Optional Add-Ons – You can add any other dried herbs of your choice, like neem leaf powder, mint leaf powder, fuller’s earth, crushed coriander seeds etc. This is entirely optional.
  2. The Liquid to be added at the time of application – The liquid can be either simple water or rosewater, curd or buttermilk etc. However, I prefer simple water quite easy and handy as well.

I have been using this DIY acne facewash for more than 4 months now and believe me I love it so much! It is followed by this amazing DIY apple cider vinegar toner for acne and two drops of carrier oil for acne-prone skin and scars after that. In summer, use a DIY aloe vera moisturizer.

My acne has reduced dramatically for good, although I still see one or two surprises when life happens, So try it you won’t regret it.

I use this oil-based anti-acne facewash in winter

P.S. – Wild turmeric will turn your facewash to a bright yellow one when mixed with water, if you don’t want that yellow hue on your face, then reduce the quantity of wild turmeric to just 1/4th. I Buy my wild Turmeric powder here.
