Even if you think that your skin is an oil factory, it still needs some moisturization. Sounds counterintuitive? Well, hear me out.
It has been proven that oily skin lacks some essential fatty acids, that’s why it produces oil. If you provide some moisturization to it on a daily basis, it will replenish the store eventually, making it less oily and more glowy.
If you are quite picky-choosey about store-bought moisturizers, then you have a choice of making your own! Yes, you can make your own DIY moisturizer for oily acne-prone skin that not only combats acne but gives you lovely skin too.
Let’s find out what we can make in our own home lab without burning a hole in our pocket!
Table of Contents
1. Plain Aloe vera gel Moisturizer
Aloe vera gel is the oily skin person’s best friend. And we oily-skinned people are most likely the acne people as well.
Did you get the gist?
Ya, I am talking about the acne treatment, oil control, and acne-scar treatment and that too while keeping the skin moisturized for good.
After trying a truckload of products (believe me, I had spent a lot on skincare during my skincare fever days) Not kidding!
So I have seen only one thing that works well not just in terms of moisturizing the skin but keeping me sane by controlling acne.
My absolute favourite Aloe vera gel!
It’s nature’s wonder and once you try it, you are never going to go back to those chemical-laden creams or gels ever again!
There is no harm in trying a new product if you really like it. I completely understand that, as I get bored with one skincare routine quite quickly too.
So when you got excited about a new launch or a really-hyped moisturizer, always do a patch test on your inner elbow. And check the reaction the next morning, if things stay good, you are good to apply that on your face.
Which Aloe Vera gel to use?
You can either use the store-bought one ( I use this one) or you can extract the gel from the aloe vera leaf directly after removing the thorns and the upper layer.
How to apply aloe vera gel as a moisturizer
Aloe Vera Gel can be used as a moisturizer after toning, I use my apple cider toner that I made with 50% water and 50% apple cider vinegar (whole info about apple cider vinegar toner ).
It is best to apply aloe vera gel after giving a minute for the toner to work.
Massage aloe vera gel into your skin by making gentle upward and circular motions with your fingertips.
After massaging just leave Aloe Vera Gel like that and you are good to go.
2. Aloe vera gel + Rose water + Essential Oil Moisturizer
You can make Aloe Vera Gel more effective by mixing rose water and a few drops of tea tree oil in it.
Rose water helps in toning the skin and also adds a great fragrance that is calming & soothing for it.
If you are acne-prone, then tea tree oil is the best choice, however, you can choose any of your favourite essential oils like peppermint oil, Lavender oil etc.

How to Store Aloe vera gel and Rose Water DIY Moisturizer
If you are using the fresh aloe vera gel then you will have to keep it refrigerated and use it within 10 days.
Vitamin E capsule increases the shelf life of the Aloe Vera Gel moisturizer but I won’t recommend that you keep this gel out of the refrigerator, especially in summer.
If you are using store-bought aloe vera gel then you can keep the jar on your skincare shelf itself and it will last as long as the expiry date of the aloe vera gel ( must be written on the tube).

Jojoba (pronounced as ho-ho-ba) Oil is one of the best carrier oil for acne-prone skin that not only clears pores and prevents any future acne but also treats active acne.

As the oil matches the qualities of the skin’s natural sebum, it is antibacterial, antimicrobial, noncomedogenic and a rich antioxidant.
“Jojoba oil is the only oil that controls the oil production in your skin!”
Adding this to aloe vera gel makes a great gel-based moisturizer for summer.

Fresh Aloe Vera Gel is best for overnight acne treatment, and to add in the face mask for pimple treatment and acne-scar reduction.
